Have you ever thought how psychology can help change the world? We always think that psychology is only for people with mental problems but we never think how it can positively change the world and benefit all of us and not only those with mental problems. Psychology can benefit us in a way that we learn about our behaviors and how they affect society. Psychology can change your perspective of how you view things for example people might have certain behaviors and that might be depending on the conditions of how they were raised sometimes in can be positive other times it can be negative. Through psychology we can view the world in a different way and understand why people act in certain which means we can understand them and help them if they need the help.
Child sexual abuse is a hard topic to talk about a lot of times people prefer not to talk about it. The reality is that child sexual abuse happens more often than we think and everyone should be aware of it. Child sexual abuse can lead to psychological problems. One psychological problem that child sexual abuse causes is post-traumatic stress disorder. The symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder are frightened dreams, anxiety, agitated behavior. The victim may also lose some of the developmental skills for example bed-wetting or thumb sucking. This can lead to depression which can lead the victim to suicide. Another psychological problem the victim might go through is an eating disorder. This might sound strange how is child sexual abuse and an eating disorder connected? Well according to doctor Mary Anne “survivors of child sexual abuse often work to become either very fat or very thin an attempt to render themselves unattractive”. But why do this? The victim feels like if they become “unattractive” they will have less of a chance of going through the same horrible experience without knowing they are only hurting themselves more. The trauma caused by child sexual abuse may lead the victim to alcohol and drug abuse when they are older. According to researcher Neil Gaiman the reason the victim might become alcoholic and use drugs is to make themselves feel better. Child sexual abuse can lead to many psychology problems and many times we are not aware of it.

Psychology is important to humanity because it can help us in many ways. For example psychology can help us improve our communication skills. We will learn to understand how we think and understand certain behaviors better. Professor James Pennebaker “Psychology makes it easier to live with others by understanding them more and working with their behavior”. This is why psychology is important to humanity because we can understand each other better. The major takeaways that I acquired from Ap psychology is to understand why people behave certain ways and how to understand them better. I also learned a lot of how our brain works and about many different disorders that I wasn’t aware of before I took the class.
