The term social justice was never used in my vocabulary until I came to Social Justice high school. Throughout my four years I heard the term “social justice” a lot at first I really didn't understand the meaning. To me social justice is equality to everyone no matter what your race, gender, sexual orientation,or social class is. During my four years I became aware of many inequalities that I wasn't aware of. One big inequality i've seen is that our education is getting taken away by closing down schools. When schools are closed for our students it closes doors to students and makes it harder for them to get an education when they are in big classrooms and they don’t get the attention they need to learn.
I could say ignorance is one of the biggest causes that we haven’t achieved Social Justice. If we are not aware of the problems that are going around us then we cannot take action when we are not aware of the inequalities that are going on. Another factor that prevents us from achieving Social Justice is the lack of resources that can help us fight for our rights.
One way we can achieve Social Justice is by getting educated and become aware of the problems that are going on in our community and around the world that affect us. If we have the knowledge we need then we will be able to inform our people because we are the only ones that can help our community and make it better because other people don’t care.
When I was a freshmen here at Social Justice Ap classes were taken away and our principal was removed and teachers were getting fired. I didn’t know much about this school but I knew that what was happening wasn’t right. I participated on a sit in this sit in was to get our principal and teachers back but also our Ap classes because that was closing doors for our education. Working together as a school we were able to get our classes back and our principal and teachers. This is one my contribution for the Social Justice struggle. With my definition of Social Justice I believe that Social Justice has not yet been achieved for the issue child sexual abuse because this issue still happens today. I hope that with my project I can inform people about it and let them know that we need more organizations to help our children who have been sexually abused.
